Research
The Bioelectronics Group at MIT works at the interface of materials science, electronics, and
neurobiology with the goal of advancing our understanding and treatment of disorders of the nervous
system. We design, synthesize, and fabricate optoelectronic and magnetic devices to manipulate and
record neuronal activity, while matching the mechanical and chemical properties of biological tissues.
Our approach applies first-principles materials design to build tools that probe and modulate
neuronal signaling at the circuit, cell, and receptor levels — from the brain to the gut.
